Unpacking wings…

21 October 2007 9:26 am

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the lack of posts, but recently I was extremely busy at work and didn’t have time for myself.

Anyway, as the title suggests

out of the box

I’m unpacking the wings ;)

In 4-5 hours I’ll be leaving to Paris and then to Athens for business, I’ll be travelling back Friday insha’ Allah :)

Let me know if you need anything from Greece ( Small things only, and no liquids :P )

Theft not only hurts one person

But many.
I needed a system to run some tests on this morning, I was happy to find 2. Unfortunately one of them was cannibalized completely :(
No HDD, no CPU, no CDD, no RAM, no FDD :!:

I lost over 30 minutes this morning running around to find the needed parts :?

One more thing to add, I know who were the culprits, I won’t say anything to them directly - I’ll unleash my manager on them

Yesterday! Today… Tomorow?

29 July 2007 1:24 am

Hello everyone, I’m really sorry for the lack of updates, but I managed to get my self in a tight jam. Currently I’m working on a couple of projects @ work, and one personal on the side :-?

I can’t say much regarding my work, except that I’m going to a training in Bracknell-UK soon ;) and it involves my favourite topic :P It will be my first business trip to my company’s EMEA HQ and I won’t be alone ;)

The plan was to leave the 15th and get back to Montpellier on the 18th and leave again on the 19th to Tunis. Honestly with the carbon footprint I leave behind me, I managed to change the flights to a direct flight from London to Tunis :D

On a personal level I can’t complain :)

Camelette gave me what I wanted (well almost… and ONLY after some insistance ;) ). I’m healthy as fish RAGING CAMEL, I’m trying to quit smoking for the second time in a month :? it’s REALLY not easy

AND! if all goes well, I’ll have a major update to announce soon ;) [Sorry still TOP SECRET] ;) wait for it!

A dear colleague of mine got married last week-end, and one day later another friend had his birthday (talk about coincidence :? ) anyhow, pictures are here (or will be shortly).

Oh, forgot to mention… My boss assigned me a whole country to manage  Now I wish I had political power over it so that I would start my empire

Stay tuned for more updates soon!!

Mums the word!! -updated-

Shhh!!!….

Big secret plan coming up… ;)

Hush

 - -

Well!!!

BarbequeThe company did a barbecue today for the CS department

The weather wasn’t good at all (cloudy, windy, rain coming any second look/feel) but non the less, our fun team did an excellent job in organizing it and the food was great (except for the part when they refused to give me a brochette  ) but I managed to get 2 later

We all had fun and a change of scenery :D

Now with a full stomach I can concentrate in the plan I’m hatching

Ethics!!!

7 June 2007 10:31 am

This morning when I got to my desk I found this

Moulin Rouge Amesterdam

One of my colleagues [the bastard ;) ] left this with my name on the back with a note that says “We found this in the toilet it’s probably yours”

I’m going to get back to him for this… you can run but you can’t hide

I’m off again

28 May 2007 9:02 am

Bummer!!

I’m still tired from my last trip :(

I’ll be in Cagliari till Friday, I’ll back home [Insha' Allah] in Montpellier around 8-9pm.

I have a long week ahead of me :?

UPDATE:

Ahhh…. GAY PARIS!!!

Thank God I’m not staying more than a couple of hours ;)

Ciao da Parigi a tutti :)

Next 2 weeks

20 May 2007 7:32 pm

I may not travel too much this quarter, but when I do, I do it with a bang.

It wasn’t me (honest)… Some personal stuff came up so I have to go to Milan.

The plan is this…

FrItFrItFr

23rd I leave to Milan by car ~650km

25th I go back to Montpellier by car ~650km

27th I leave Montpellier to Cagliari via Paris by plane ~1800km

1st I leave Cagliari to Montpellier via Paris by plane ~ 1800km

That makes a grand total of 4900km’s (give or take a few km’s :? ), and to think that I asked the company to book me a flight from Milan and Back, not only it would have been cheaper but it would have saved me 1 car & 2 plane trips. Unfortunately it wasn’t possible due to ticket pricing limitations.

Well, I seem to have 2 very tough weeks in my hands. Wish me luck.

P.s. The Gallery is up and running properly, I’ve managed to add a few pictures. I still have some issues with the “Photo” link available on the top of the blog (I’m working on it).

Back at the head office

23 April 2007 11:17 am

It’s a shock :?

I’m trying to get used to the office environment, it’s not easy after a whole month out of the office.

The image “http://fig-st-die.education.fr/actes/actes_2005/bakis/Bakis%20Bonnet%20%5B051104%5DSt%20DIE%20avec%20Illustrations_html_m70194606.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Last week in Tunis helped me get back slowly to the old hectic everyday rush…
I had forgotten almost all my passwords (I remembered some unfortunately ;)), When I came back to my desk I saw it clean (i.e. no papers, docking station or cables were to be seen) I started a crusade to search for my stuff, it took me 30 minutes (and a lot of questioned colleagues) to discover that I had put everything in the drawer :? (what an embarrasment :?)

I still need to find my favorite chair!!… Who took it?!

T-9 days and counting…

16 March 2007 11:30 pm

Yep! Nine days to go till my trip back to camel land. :D
To be honest I’m happy and a bit afraid… Happy because I’m going to see my family and friends that I haven’t seen in a very long time, and afraid for my own personal reasons.
Appart from that, I finished the BPI training and I need to start takling the certification soon, the training was fantastic {a bit complex with the terminologies}.
The course colleagues were great and the trainer even better :)

The only real downside was my abcense from the office, the few times that I went back to my desk with the intention of cleaning the inbox I got stopped by my colleagues telling me that there were IT issues everywhere :? (I had a feeling that it would have been one of those weeks )

  • Ownership issues
  • System passwords
  • Headcounts
  • Non functioning tools and websites
  • …etc… (I’m not going to bother you with the issues)

http://images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/531/372702.jpg
(this is how I felt)

The worst issue was in Greece; the poor guys couldn’t logon to the system, you would imagine that fixing the problem was a simple-painless-quick matter to solve right? WRONG! they were locked out because the new tool that was put up in place didn’t function as it was supposed :-x
I’ll try to explain, our partners login to our systems using accounts that our company provided for them, the only downside is that the passwords need to be resetted every 90 days. The old process was a long and not fool proof since it was done by hand (imagine resetting passwords for 380+ people :?) so our IT created a new tool that would give out a warning in the last 7 and 3 days so that we can validate them beforehand (good idea! nice tool! you would think) unfortunately something went wrong, from what I understood the accounts were recreated from scratch and the IT didn’t insert them in the tool because they didn’t recieve any request from HR (I don’t even want to talk about the new hire process).
Not a problem I said, I send an e-mail asking to validate the accounts by hand thinking that the IT guys* would do it in a jiffy… Well… The issue was solved 24H later!!! :(

(* in defence of the IT guys; they are only 8 people for 1000 in office employees, not counting all the externals :?)

Now after I got that out of my chest; I need to start reading the +100 e-mails I got everyday for the past 5 days.

One thing useful that I got from the Six Sigma course is this

Putting this equation into use would give me

f(e-mails)=work
And seeing that
work=monday

That would give me

monday=f(e-mails)

Now I have irrefutable scientific proof that my work e-mails can wait till Monday :D (I need to show this to my boss ;))
